About Tanya
Tanya A. Perdikoulias
Tanya A. Perdikoulias is a photographer, researcher, author, and speaker whose work explores the stories photographs tell and the conversations they can spark.
After more than a decade photographing families, Tanya became increasingly interested in what happened after the picture was taken. Which photographs earned a place on the wall? Which ones stayed tucked away? Who appeared again and again, and who seemed to be missing?
Those questions eventually led to original research into family photographs, belonging, memory, identity, and relationships, and became the foundation for the What’s the Hang-Up? book series.
Tanya brings together her background in family portrait photography, research, and storytelling to help people look at familiar photographs in a new way. Her approach is warm, curious, and grounded in the idea that the same image can tell very different stories depending on who is looking at it.
She is the author of What’s the Hang-Up? The Art of Family Politics and Photos, launching September 24, 2026.
