About the Book
Is this an academic book?
Not at all! While What's the Hang-Up? The Art of Family Politics and Photos is based on research, it's written for everyday readers, not university classrooms.
Think of it as having coffee with a friend who shares interesting stories, surprising discoveries, and a few laughs along the way.
No academic jargon. No pop quizzes. Just a fresh look at why the photos we display, or don't display, can mean so much.
Do I need to be a photographer to enjoy this book?
Absolutely not! You don't even need to own a camera!
This book isn't about taking better photos. It's about understanding the people, memories, and feelings connected to them.
If you've ever noticed a family photo on someone's wall, wondered why someone was missing from a picture, or felt something when looking at an old photograph, this book is for you!
After all, it's not always what's in the picture that matters. Sometimes it's what's happening outside the frame!

Anyone with family, memories, and a few photos!
Whether you're a parent, grandparent, sibling, partner, or someone trying to make sense of family relationships, there's something here for you.

Is the book based on real experiences and research?
It sure is!
I interviewed 52 people and received 132 survey responses to better understand how people feel about family photos.
What I discovered was fascinating! People have all sorts of reasons for displaying certain photos, leaving others out, or choosing not to display photos at all.
Their stories helped uncover some surprising differences in how we see, share, and display our memories.
The research gives the book its foundation, but the stories, humour, and practical ideas make it something you can enjoy with your morning coffee!
Ordering Your Book
Why are prices listed in U.S. dollars?
Great question, especially since I'm a Canadian author!
My paperback distribution partner, BookSpace (formerly Books.by), processes purchases in U.S. dollars, no matter where you're ordering from.
When you reach checkout, you'll see the price in U.S. dollars. Your bank or credit card provider will then convert the charge into your local currency. The final amount will depend on the exchange rate and any additional fees charged by your payment provider.
So whether you're shopping from Canada, Ireland, Australia, or somewhere else in the world, your credit card statement will reflect the converted amount.
A little international math, and you're ready to read!
Where is my book printed and shipped from?
Good news! My paperback distributor, BookSpace (formerly Books.by), works with printing partners around the world.
Whenever possible, your book is printed at a facility closer to where you live rather than travelling halfway around the globe to reach you.
This helps reduce shipping distances and supports a more efficient way of getting books into readers' hands.
After all, it's the stories we want travelling, not necessarily the paper they're printed on!

Good question!
I independently publish What's the Hang-Up? through my photography business, PHOTOBOUND, and work with a few partners to bring my books to readers around the world.
My paperback orders are handled by BookSpace (formerly Books.by), while audiobook purchases are processed through my online store.
Depending on what you purchase and how you pay, you may see a different company name on your payment statement.

How do I receive my audiobook after purchasing it?
No need to wait for the mail carrier! Your audiobook is delivered digitally.
After purchasing, you'll receive access to download the audiobook files. Check your order confirmation and email for the download information.
Can't find the link? Have a peek in your spam or junk folder. Sometimes emails like to play hide-and-seek!

Can I listen to the audiobook on my phone or tablet?
Absolutely! Your audiobook comes as downloadable MP3 files, which you can enjoy on compatible smartphones, tablets, and computers.
Once you've downloaded the files, you can listen using an audio player on your device. Depending on your device, you may need to save or import the files into your preferred listening app.
You'll also receive a companion PDF so you won't miss out on the book's illustrations and other visual content.

Not there just yet!
For now, you can purchase the audiobook directly through my website as a digital download. You'll receive MP3 files that you can listen to on compatible devices.

Is the audiobook narrated by the author?
It sure is! That's me behind the microphone!
I wanted you to hear the stories just as I'd tell them if we were sitting together over coffee, complete with the humour, curiosity, and occasional sass that went into writing them.
The audiobook was recorded in a professional studio, and at just over four and a half hours long, there's plenty of time for us to have a good chat!
So grab your headphones, get comfortable, and let's talk about what really goes on behind those family photos!
